This is the perfect awning for our backyard deck! It hangs nicely above a cedar Amish glider. The instructions will say this needs to be mounted onto brick. However, we have mid-90s pressboard siding. The kit comes with some large lag bolts, which I don't recommend just screwing into the pressboard siding. It was a simple fix, though. I picked up a piece of 2"x6" x 8' cedar. (you could also pick up a 2x6x8 of treated, I just prefer cedar.
That was about $10 bucks. I took some long deck screws and screwed it into the wall studs. Note: I couldn't locate these from the outside, so I went inside and found the studs above the window. Measured over from the window, and applied those to the outside. Then, I screwed the 2x6 into the studs. I hit 6 studs with 2 screws a piece. Then, I used the lag bolts that came with this kit and attached the awning. Note, I had to grab some larger washers, as the ones in the kit seemed a little weak. But, wallah, here it is! LOOKS GREAT!! And is really easy to turn to bring in an out. Great purchase! Can't find anything better for this price. All the mechanical ones at Costco were in the thousands...

So far so good! We installed this on the back of our toy hauler. We had to pull inner paneling back to make sure we were securing to studs. Provides instant shade for our toy deck!! Love it!

I used Aosom for the first time the spring of 2021 to buy a birthday present for my dog who was turning 10. I bought the canopy for the back deck so he could have a little bit of shade to lay in. But Aosom has turned this into an absolutely awful experience. I was very excited to find a Canadian company to shop with. But the add appears to have wrong dimensions and Aosom has refused to give me the benefit of the doubt, and states they have looked into it and find there is no issue with their add. It states too different lengths, so I assumed the width would fit my small deck. We could tell as soon as we got it, that it was too long, So it was not installed. I attempted to find a smaller one on Aosom's website so I could exchange it, but the smallest they have is for over windows, which does not have the angel we need. The ones for windows have a steep angle so you would not be able to walk under it. So I contacted Aosom to return the product,. But Aosom has refused of fully refunded me. With so many companies who honor returns, I was shocked to be refused a full refund. The customer service department, then said I changed my mind, which I did not. If the item fit, I would have definitely kept it. At first they said I could return it, but would have to pay the return shipping which is over $70. I contacted them again, and now they state I have to pay the shipping to me, which the website says is free AND the return shipping. I definitely regret doing business with this company. I would have been a happy customer and continued to shop with Aosom if they honored their return policy and provided reasonable customer service, but unfortunately for both of us they didn't and I will never shop with them again.
